THE LANDYACHTZ MISSION
We believe in making quality skateboards that will improve your life. Skateboarding makes life better, it’s something to do with your friends, it’s a way of expressing yourself, a way to get outside, it’s fun, challenging and exciting. You don’t need a membership, seasons pass or a vehicle to be a skateboarder, all you need is a board and your imagination.
For 18 years, we’ve been designing boards for the world to enjoy and we’re proud of what we created. Landyachtz was started 18 years ago in the basement of the Blackcomb Ski Club cabin by two friends, Michael Perreten and Thomas Edstrand. Fast forward to 2016 and Landyachtz has grown to over 60 employees with spaces in both East Vancouver and LA county, developed a manufacturing facility in Kimberley BC and opened a retail space/arcade in the Strathcona neighborhood of Vancouver.
Skateboarding is good for the environment. It’s a form of self propelled transportation that requires no fuel, releases no pollutants into the air. It’s only by-products are a healthier life and a happier day.
Improving quality of life is one important thing skateboards do but we want to take that one step further. This year and for years to come, we will plant one tree for every board we produce and sell. Giving back is important to us and we are now in a position where we can make a large impact on the world. We have partnered with three organizations who not only plant trees around the world, but focus on educating communities on important farming practices, responsible forestry management efforts and long term economic solutions for struggling communities. The more boards we make and sell, the more trees we plant.
We’ve had a DIY mentality since day one. We will continue to put everything we have in to the boards we make. Our small Vancouver based office is a busy place. Everything from video production, product development, graphic design, sales, marketing, shipping and assembly all happen by a group of dedicated skateboarders. Our Hollow Tech boards are made in the interior of BC by a skilled group of skateboarders who are on the forefront of board building technology. Our crew in LA works hard to send boards all over the world for people to enjoy. When work finished on Friday we gather with beers in hand and toast to a week of hard work and a weekend of adventure.
